Sei Labs, the core development team behind the Sei blockchain, has submitted a pivotal proposal to abandon Cosmos transactions and CosmWasm smart contracts in favor of an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-exclusive framework. The move aims to streamline the network’s architecture as EVM-based activity dominates its ecosystem.

The SEI Improvement Proposal-3 (SIP-3) marks the second governance submission under Sei’s new SIP process. Approval would eliminate dual support for Cosmos and EVM accounts, positioning Sei as a specialized chain for scalable DeFi, gaming, and real-world applications. "This reflects a clear path forward," the proposal states, emphasizing EVM’s dominance in current on-chain activity.
